The project followed a human-centered design methodology, iterating between research, synthesis, and validation, and included:

  • Discovery Phase: Literature review and secondary research to understand the current 3D scanning landscape.

  • Exploratory Research: Over 100 scanning experiments evaluating mobile photogrammetry, LiDAR, structured light scanning, and desktop photogrammetry.

  • Acceptance Criteria Assessment: Evaluated customer needs and merchant limitations to redefine ‘good enough’ standards for 3D scans.

  • Synthesis Workshops: Weekly sessions to analyze findings and develop a 3D scanning taxonomy.

Prototype Testing: Uploaded sample scans to Shopify test stores to assess usability and customer experience.
